Thriller’s return to No. 1 on the May 16 chart marks its 38th total week atop the ranking, extending its record for the most weeks at No. 1 by a male artist.
The album originally spent 37 consecutive weeks at No. 1 in 1983–84 following its November 1982 release, a record that stood for 42 years until SZA’s SOS surpassed it in June 2025. SOS now holds the overall chart record with 46 weeks at No. 1.
