  1. Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” is a song by American singer Michael Jackson recorded for his sixth studio album Thriller (1982). It is the opening track of the album and was released as its fourth single on May 8, 1983 by Epic Records. It was written by Jackson and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones. The lyrics pertain to strangers spreading rumors to start an argument for no good reason. “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” evokes the disco sound of Jackson’s previous studio album, Off the Wall, released in 1979. The song is characterized by a complex rhythm arrangement and a distinctive horn arrangement.

“Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” became Jackson’s fourth consecutive top 10 single from Thriller on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number five. The song also topped the charts in Canada as well as the Netherlands and charted within the top 20 and top 30 in several countries. It was generally well received by contemporary music critics. As part of the release of Thriller 25, a remix of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'”, entitled “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ 2008 with Akon”, was recorded with Akon, and released as the second single from the album. The remix was commercially successful, mainly charting within the top 10 in six countries, as well as the top 20 in several territories worldwide and top 40 in Canada. It was more successful internationally than in the United States, having peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 81, which was the song’s lowest charting position.

Unlike previous singles from Thriller, “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” did not have a music video to accompany it, but was performed by Jackson on world concert tours, as both a member of The Jacksons and as a solo artist. Following Jackson’s death in June 2009, the song re-entered music charts worldwide. “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” has been covered and sampled by multiple recording artists since its release. Aside from Thriller, the song appears on multiple compilation and greatest hits albums by Jackson.

Christopher Connelly, a writer for Rolling Stone, described “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” as being Thriller’s “most combative track”.[6] Connelly noted that in the “hyperactive” song, Jackson’s “emotions are so raw that the song nearly goes out of control”.[6] He further commented that the song has a “tune that’s almost as exciting as seeing Jackson motivate himself across a concert stage – and a lot more unpredictable”.[6] Remarking that while the song’s lyrics “won’t keep Elvis Costello awake nights [sic]”, they “do show that Jackson has progressed past the hey-let’s-hustle sentiments that dominated Off the Wall”.[6] He added that Jackson’s “raw ability and conviction make material like”, citing “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'”, as well as other of Thriller’s songs, “into first-class cuts”.[6]

Stephen Thomas Erlewine, a writer for AllMusic, listed “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'”, along with “Beat It”, “Billie Jean”, and “Human Nature”, as being the best songs from Thriller. He also described the song as the “freshest funk on the album”.[4] Eric Herderson, a writer for Slant Magazine, commented that with “three quick rimshots”, he felt that “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” was like a “court fanfare”.[5] Robert Christgau, a music critic, commented that he’d “expect to bear more” of Thriller’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Something” and “Thriller” on the “dancefloor” rather than in his “living room”.[11] “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” received one Grammy Award nomination; it was nominated for “Best R&B Song” at the 1984 Grammy Awards, but lost to “Billie Jean,” another of Jackson’s singles from Thriller.[12]

Pitchfork ranked this song No. 2 on its list of “The 200 Best Songs of the 1980s”, saying that “if you’re going to become the biggest star in the world, it helps to make the biggest song”

All copy and paste from a fanzine publication. Hey floon, repeating old news won’t change the fact that even artists like Justin Bieber have surpassed Michael McJackson. When a woodpecker spends most of his adult life chasing boyz, but not recording new albums and/or touring every year, he gets surpassed by superiority. Ahhhhhhh…..Michael McJackson has been officially removed from the Guinness for 2020. The screams, the cries, the gut wrenching wails. Do you dry your tears and blow your honker into endless tissues, clown?

        • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Yes, Hannibal always believes that the truth frustrates little ole me. At least, that is what he tells himself. Hey Hannibal, do you have wet dreams of Michael McJackson’s brief eighties reign as he invited nude boyz to his rooms around the international globe?

Ahhhhhhh….it must bring pain in your heart that you had to settle for Uncle Charlie, Boy George and now the aging Mr Kitty.

Yep, never mind Billboard. What pitchfork says is bond. Isn’t a pitchfork something the devil is currently shoving down Michael McJackson’s ripped, sore can?

Meatloaf probably knows that Bill Haley and Little Richard were on the charts before the pelvis, Sweetpea. It is like Prince, Musical Youth and Eddie Grant being the first black artists played on MTV. The difference is the pelvis never lied. It was Michael McJackson that lied.

That is why you continue to lie for the dead woodpecker.

      • Are you blind ? Why will MJ marriet Lisa Marie , because MJ was an fan of Elvis , thats why he copeyed Elvis clothing style and lives see Elvis go every time visits zoo s . Hey are you living under the rock ? The point on the cake fruit was Lisa ….[ I copyed Elvis to !!! ]

        • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Michael McJackson wanted to steal from the pelvis, and take credit for everything. He did not like the fact that Prince made a music video that was played on MTV first. As for McJackson liking the pelvis, I do not think he was a fan. He just wanted the “king” title, but did not want to work for it. Since Michael McJackson took 5 to 6 years between albums, he is easily surpassed.

No, those hardly laughs keep coming because I win every single time. They do not keep me here because I’m gorgeous, they keep me here because I’m smart. Hey Hannibal, when you lie to your old mama, do you make her sad that she was unlucky she once held you in her chunky arms as her screaming dolly?

Those vicious teeth bit down hard on her tender flesh.

  3. “Thriller,” released on November 30, 1982, went on to become the world’s best-selling music album in history. The iconic album, featuring hits like the title track as well as “Beat It” and “Billie Jean,” has sold over 33 million copies, and counting, in the United States alone, according to recent numbers from the Recording Industry Association of America.

While the Eagles album “Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975” recently passed “Thriller” in terms of all-time American sales (with 38 million, according to RIAA), Jackson’s classic album is still recognized as the best-selling album ever in terms of global sales. While estimates vary, “Thriller” is said to have sold at least 66 million copies globally, according to the Guinness World Records, while others have claimed the album has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.

Queen’s “Greatest Hits” has officially passed Michael McJackson’s “Thriller” in the rest of the world, clown.

How come you floons love repeating old and outdated news?

The Guinness book for 2020 has to update its information and replace Michael McJackson’s tarnished name with Queen. It is only right.

      • u gotta make up your mind which artist and album u want to have more sales than Thriller wotldwide
        i am getting confused
when u made up yor mind i will check the artist and album.
Take your time u seem to have a rough couple of days here lol ha ha ha

        • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Queen’s “Greatest Hits” has been high on the worldwide charts ever since they made that biography movie on Queen. Those “rock” musicals have even helped Elton John’s sales skyrocket to new levels. Of course, The Eagles outsell Queen in the US, only because it is allowed on the country catalog charts. No rough couple of days, Hannibal. In fact, I’ve made a fortune on my latest find at the Salvation Army. It netted me a whopping handful of cash. I’m in the money, I’m in the money. Things couldn’t be any better for me. I know the tears always sprinkle out of your little eyes, but that is just too bad. I continue to laugh, while you scramble like a blind man.

      • In the UK, Greatest Hits debuted at number two on the UK Albums Chart and climbed to number one the following week, spending four weeks at the top. The album continued to sell well throughout the 1980s, appearing on several UK year-end charts, and by the end of the decade it had become the fourth-biggest selling album in the UK during the 1980s, with sales of over 1.9 million copies.[15] By 2006, Greatest Hits had become the best-selling album in the UK and the first album to sell more than five million copies there.[16] In February 2014, it was confirmed by the Official Charts Company that Greatest Hits had become the first album in the UK to sell over six million copies.[ As of February 2019 the album has spent a total of 861 weeks on the UK Albums Chart.

In the US the album sold moderately well on initial release in 1981, being certified platinum,[20] and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart on its reissue in 1992.[21] However, it has since been certified eight times platinum for sales of eight million copies, making it the band’s best-selling album there. It is also the band’s best-selling album worldwide, with total sales of more than 25 million copies

        • What artist are you referring to, dumbo?

Queen’s “Greatest Hits” has spent almost 900 weeks on the charts means that it is joining Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon” and AC/DC’s “Black In Black” as one of the world’s biggest selling albums of all time.

Hey Meatloaf, listen to “Eye Hate U” by Prince. It is definitely way better than that grossly over rated Michael McJackson! Everything is pointing to Prince as the genius of musical superiority. God, was that fine man ever the sexiest creature on the planet, or what?

The sane world agrees that Prince Nelson is the king, not the screaming woodpecker. As for your aging hero, things are not looking nearly as good. However, his dwindling fortune and estate only reported a one million dollar loss, compared to last year. It was Michael McJacksom who lost a whopping $340 million from the year before. I laugh and laugh and laugh. Hey Meatloaf, why is skinny such a compulsive liar?

He must have been born that way.

  7. Ahhhhhh….Hannibal screams, “Eye Hate You, Billy Jack B*tch” as he pops an exploding pimple on the white grainy sands of nude Portugal. “Please Mister Kitty….release me, and let me love again!” Hey Hannibal, did old man Clifford ask you to take off those skimpy little trunks as he was eyeballing your skinny little bod?

Oops….Mr Kitty’s radar can detect a real boy a mile away. Those seashells are sure purrty, aren’t they?

  8. We all know that Prince is often regarded as the most talented artist of all time. The man could do it all, which included directing and doing musical scores for blockbusters like “Batman.” Not only did Prince compose, produce, act and direct….he also played multiple instruments and performed multiple tours. Not only did he get the box office tickets for “Purple Rain”, but at the same time sold out everywhere he played. As if that wasn’t enough, Prince wrote songs for other artists, or/and some covered his material. Prince received all royalties. Unlike Michael McJackson, Prince never had to keep paying Quincy Jones. Prince was his own producer. The Emperor simply was in a league all by himself. Prince modeled himself from greatness, especially when it came to video and films. Prince is one of the few musical giants to ever win an Oscar for his very first film. Of course, Michael Jackson was extremely jealous of the purple one, plus Prince humiliated McJackson when he accidentally hit the crying clown in the face with a whipping ping pong ball. Prince laughed as McJackson ran away in tears. Prince called McJackson, “Helen Keller.”

Ahhhhhh….the tears of mighty mouth. Hey Hannibal, did you meet up with Mr Kitty on the coast of Portugal?

I heard that the gay nude beaches have a lot of glistering bodies in the sand. Did you and Mr Kitty find some seashells?

Again, you still haven’t addressed the issue of the “Human Nature” blemish and why Michael McJackson allowed it to be released on the “Thriller” album. You claimed he was a “perfectionist.” Hmmmmmmmm….

Since you are blaming Prince for the failure of Carman Electra’s debut album, maybe we can blame McJackson for his sister, LaToya’s lack of success. Ahhhhh….that pinched up face can dish it out, but will not reply when confronted will real facts. What else is new?

  10. Hey clown, you claim Michael McJackson was a perfectionist, but he allowed Quincy Jones to release the badly spliced “Human Nature” on “Thriller.” The blemish is still noticeable. I always thought it one one of the biggest hatchet jobs ever. It totally ruins the song. Prince would have simply recorded the whole song again from start to finish, but if he did need to splice, he would definitely do a better job himself. That is the benefit of producing all your own work. You do not have to live with someone else’s screw ups. Prince knew quality was everything.

    • Carmen Electra is the self-titled debut album by Carmen Electra, released in 1993. The album was a project designed by Prince to promote Electra, his latest protégée at the time, as a sexy female rapper. The album features music written by Prince with some input by band member Levi Seacer, Jr.. Lyrics were provided by Prince, along with Seacer, The New Power Generation rapper Tony M. and female rapper Monie Love. Four singles were released from the album: “Go-Go Dancer”, “Everybody Get on Up”, “Fantasia Erotica”, and “Fun”. The album was not well received and effectively ended Electra’s recording career. In interviews, she has pointed out that during the time of the album’s release, Prince was having problems with his label, which could have contributed to its failure.

      • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Carman Electra was one of Prince’s lovers. Of course, he was going to produce her self titled album. However, it was not Prince’s production that failed, but rather beauty does not equal talent. Prince loved women, so he was blinded from reality. He wanted to make stars as a reflection of himself. Beautiful women were his weakness. Besides, what does Prince’s problem with Warner Brother’s have to with Quincy’s terribly spliced “Human Nature?” You are simply spinning, instead of addressing the issue. Michael McJackson’s last album while alive was “Invincible” which was not promoted by Sony because McJackson refused to do a concert tour. Sony advanced McJackson thirty million for the album, which contained not one number one hit.

  11. Ahhhhhh….I was censored. I could not say why Michael McJackson died of his massive drug addictions?

      • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
        Censored again.

Michael McJackson’s drug addictions are relevant to the conversation, toad.

          • ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Michael McJackson screamed, “Whoa…he’s taking Morphine!”

Even more relevant to the conversation. The biggest junkie in Hollywood history is definitely Michael McJackson, who was recorded on audio with slobbering mush mouth.

  12. “Beat It” is a song by American singer Michael Jackson from his sixth studio album, Thriller (1982). It was produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones encourage Jackson to include a rock song on the album, though Jackson reportedly had never previously shown an interest in the genre. Jackson later said of “Beat It”, “I wanted to write a song, the type of song that I would buy if I were to buy a rock song… That is how I approached it and I wanted the children to really enjoy it—the school children as well as the college students.”[4]

Following the successful Thriller singles “The Girl Is Mine” and “Billie Jean”, “Beat It” was released on February 14, 1983 as the album’s third single. “Beat It” peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, staying there for three weeks.[5] It also charted at number one on the R&B Singles Chart.[6] The song is certified 5x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With 27 million copies sold worldwide, it is one of the best-selling singles of all time. “Beat It” was a number one hit in Europe, reaching number one in Spain and the Netherlands.[6] Billboard ranked the song No. 5 for 1983.[7] The single, along with its music video, helped propel Thriller into becoming the best-selling album of all time.

The song is also notable for its music video, which features Jackson bringing two gangsters together through the power of music and dance, and for Eddie Van Halen’s guitar solo. The music video helped establish Jackson as an international pop icon.[8] “Beat It” has been cited as one of the most successful, recognized, awarded and celebrated songs in the history of popular music; both the song and video had a large impact on pop culture.[9]

“Beat It” received the 1984 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, as well as two American Music Awards. It was inducted into the Music Video Producers Hall of Fame. Rolling Stone placed “Beat It” on the 344th spot of its list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The song was also ranked number 81 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitar Songs of All Time.

“Beat It” has been recognized with several awards. At the 1984 Grammy Awards, the song earned Jackson two of a record-eight awards: Record of the Year and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. The track won the Billboard Music Award for favorite dance/disco 12″ LP in 1983.[6][31] The single was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a few months after its release, for shipments of at least one million units. In 1989, the standard format single was re-certified platinum by the RIAA, based on the revised sales level of one million units for platinum singles.[32] The total number of digital sales in the US, as of August 2018, stands at 4,000,000

Jackson’s “Beat It” has been cited as one of the most successful, recognized, awarded and celebrated songs in the history of pop music; both the song and video had a large impact on pop culture.[9] The song is said to be a “pioneer” in black rock music, and is considered one of the cornerstones of the Thriller album.[9] Eddie Van Halen has been praised for adding “the greatest guitar solo”, helping “Beat It” become one of the best-selling singles of all time.[9]

Shortly after its release, “Beat It” was included in the National Highway Safety Commission’s anti-drunk driving campaign, “Drinking and Driving Can Kill a Friendship”. The song was also included on the accompanying album. Jackson collected an award from President Ronald Reagan at the White House, in recognition for his support of the campaign.[31] Reagan stated that Jackson was “proof of what a person can accomplish through a lifestyle free of alcohol or drug abuse. People young and old respect that. And if Americans follow his example, then we can face up to the problem of drinking and driving, and we can, in Michael’s words, ‘Beat It’.”[51]

Frequently listed in greatest song polling lists, “Beat It” was ranked as the world’s fourth favorite song in a 2005 poll conducted by Sony Ericsson.[50] Over 700,000 people in 60 different countries cast their votes.[50] Voters from the UK placed “Billie Jean” at No. 1, ahead of “Thriller”, with a further five of the top ten being solo recordings by Jackson.[50] In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed “Beat It” in the 337th spot on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.[52] The song was featured in the films Back to the Future Part II, Zoolander and Undercover Brother.[50] When re-released, as part of the Visionary campaign in 2006, “Beat It” charted at No. 15 in the UK.[50] The song has been used in TV commercials for companies like Budweiser, eBay, Burger King, Delta Air Lines, Game Boy, Coldwell Banker and the NFL. On the City Guys episode of season 3’s “Face the Music”, Jamal says to Slick Billy West, played by Sherman Hemsley, “Well Gone Michael Jackson and Beat It” which was in the final scene. The song also appeared in the 2008 music game, Guitar Hero World Tour, as the last song in the vocal career. Notably, in this game, the vocalist will perform the same dance routine performed by Jackson on the video and live performances when singing the final verse. The song is featured on the dancing game Michael Jackson: The Experience.

A remix of “2 Bad”, is featured on Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix containing a sample of “Beat It” as well as a rap by John Forté and guitar solo by Wyclef Jean.

Hey clown, why did your hero have Eddie Van Halen mail in his guitar solo that was recorded in another state?

Ahhhhh…Michael McJackson could not play the instrument himself, nor could he produce. Quincy Jones had to overdub Edward Van Halen’s solo to the track. Prince never had to fake anything or work in pieces. You know when you are listening to a Prince album, you are getting quality workmanship and crafted excellence. Michael McJackson, not too much. He had to do what he was told by Quincy Jones. Jones told the woodpecker to stop playing with the snake and the llama. “Get in the booth, and get to work!”

  13. Again, Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” Musical Youth’s “Pass The Dutchie” and Eddie Grant’s “Electric Avenue” were all played on heavy rotation on MTV, before “Billie Jean.” It simply means that Michael McJackson lied that he was the first black artist played on MTV. Prince released the “1999” album in 1982.

Hey clown, why do you repeat falsehoods, over and over, when it has been debunked for years?
